Upcoming Workshops

We value exchange, in all its forms.

collective.aporia strives to make creativity and community accessible to all. Because of this, we have set our minimum donation amount of $25. Should you have the financial means to donate more to the facilitators, or to our Community Scholarship, please add on the 'upsell' options after purchasing the workshop.

We want to pay artists fairly for their work. All donations for the CWS are split with the facilitator 70/30, with the smaller portion going back into the collective for overhead costs.

The community scholarship allows folks from diverse communities to take the workshop at no cost to them. The application process for this scholarship can be found here.

We also have the option to participate in the Work Exchange Initiative (WEI), which includes work-trade options for folks who cannot afford the minimum donation, or would like to ‘buy-in’ to the collective in a different way, such as by writing blog posts, helping with marketing, or editing video subtitles.

Thank you for your generosity and continued support.

FAQ

How do I sign up?

Sign up by clicking the link to courses above, and then clicking the green button that reads "register now."

How does it work?

These workshops are primarily self-directed. Since we're international (we've had people from all over the US, Scotland, France, England, Ireland, Italy, and India), there's no way to find a good time to do it live. We do have a Zoom gathering once during the month for anyone who can make it, but it's casual.

You will be prompted to create an account with Podia when you purchase the workshop. All videos and resources will be available on this platform. We will also send an onboarding email prior to the start of the workshop explaining how to access the materials on Podia. We hold discussions on our discord; there is a link in the Podia course that will take you to our discord server. Please let us know if you do not receive these materials via email.

How much time will I need to dedicate?

Details regarding dates, times, & submissions of work are subject to each workshop facilitator and type of workshop.

For our Communal Workshop Series & Redux Series, each facilitator will provide at least one 30-60 minute video once a week for each week of the month (4 videos total).

Weekend workshops are held live and synchronously on Zoom.

If you would like to know more information about a workshop, please email us.

What language are the workshops in?

For now, most workshops will be taught in English. However, collective.aporia offers subtitles
for the workshop videos in over 60 languages. If you have questions about language accommodations,
please feel free to email us at collective.aporia@gmail.com.

What if I don't want to create in English?

Then definitely don't.

I've never written/made art before or I don't consider myself an artist or I am nervous about my skill level. Is there a skill requirement?

No skill requirement whatsoever. Come as you are. Be as you are.

What materials will I need?

Most workshops only require a notebook & writing utensil, with some requiring recording devices. However, if you wish to paint, draw, take photos, play music, dance, etc., please have your materials ready. Feel free to contact us with any questions at collective.aporia@gmail.com.

I could not have been happier to have joined this workshop! The people I met and all the beautiful words and knowledge they all shared, we all shared, was something very refreshing - I felt I was been born in a new heaven of art and artists. The workshop and the creations that took place during it, have provided with a lot of excellent ways to engage with the creative side of me, and more importantly, with a pair of new eyes that look at my surroundings in a very different way now. Everything is Art, and the Heaven/Human/Earth topics have made an impact on me, an impact that will always be present when creating. And I love that "there are new influences taking part" Thank you for this beautiful opportunity to share and learn with you all.

Sarah's workshop on the ekphrastic form was an in-depth, immersive, and wonderful invitation in collaboration and experimentation. The videos and follow-up links were great resources for discussion, and the writing prompts were essentially mini-rituals -- considering the sheer level of instruction and detail in each one. It's a highly enjoyable, safe, and generative virtual space that I hope I'll be able to share in again in the near future.

Collective Aporia's workshops have offered me a much needed space to create and be in community with lovely groups of diverse, talented, and inspiring artists. I am so grateful for the insights, resources, and art that is shared and created in these spaces!

Poetic Curation and Archive was a treasured through-line in my creative practice this month. The workshop community was so enthusiastically welcoming, and I felt such a warm sense of joy and invitation from all of the facilitators, which set a spirit of openness and experimentation among the participants. The content of the workshop was also really welcoming-- so many ways to engage through different media and different platforms for sharing, and many fascinating connections drawn between the work of leading artists, without requiring any prior knowledge. This made it easy to engage however was right for me during a tumultuous time. In this time of distanced online connection, it felt special to find a space to encounter new relationships where each participant was really seen and appreciated fully.

Sarah is a wonderful facilitator. She made us dig deep inside the creative wells that many of us didn't even know existed inside of us. She directed our creative energies in new and exciting directions leading us to forge connections with nature, the cosmic, art and our own bodies in the process.
